Ilkley is an English spa town in West Yorkshire. Ilkley civil district includes the adjacent village of Ben Rhydding and is a Ward within the Metropolitan Borough of Bradford. The town is located approximately 12 miles north of Bradford in Wharfedale.
Ben Rhydding Hydro is a Hydropathic Establishment that was built in the town's 19th century. It has gained a reputation for being a popular spa town. Charles Darwin received hydropathic treatments at Wells House during his stay with his family in the North View House, while his book On the Origin of Species was published on 24th November 1859. Tourists came to the area to bathe in cold water and 'take the waters.'
Holmfirth is a small Yorkshire village located in the Holme Valley of the West Riding. This charming little town in Yorkshire is full of stone-built houses. It was the inspiration for the long-running comedy "Last of the Summer Wine".
Holmfirth lies in the Holme Valley nestled in the Pennine Hills. The Rivers Holme, Ribble, and Ribble all meet in Holmfirth. The A6024 Woodhead Road runs from Holme Moss down to the town, 6 miles south of Huddersfield. The Peak District National Park is located 4 miles south of the town. Holmfirth used to be a centre of pioneering filmmaking by Bamforth & Co Ltd. They later shifted their focus to making saucy postcards.
